Thyroid Function~The thyroid is a small gland situated in the front of the neck, which plays a vital role in controlling the rate of metabolism; the rate at which your body produces and uses energy. It functions in co-operation with the hypothalamus and pituitary gland located in the brain.
Often the symptoms of a malfunctioning thyroid gland include excessive weight gain/loss, water retention (oedema) fatigue, cold intolerance, anxiety, hand tremors, bulging and/or puffy irritated eyes, restless sleep, dry skin and for women, irregular menstruation.
The following items are analysed:
- Free thyroid hormone
- Thyroxine (FT4)
- Pituitary hormone
- Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
The test results should be discussed with your own GP or medical advisor as she/he is best placed to interpret the results and make a diagnosis leading to treatment if appropriate.
How to complete the testSimply telephone the helpline in your kit to arrange for a blood sample to be taken from our network of private surgeries and hospitals. You can also have your blood sample collected from your home address at an additional cost by selecting 'Add home visit' on check out.
Your results can then be obtained 5 days after we recieve your test simply and anonymously by entering your user id and password in our log in section.

This test consists of all the items needed to complete a blood test at our laboratory, the Gold Standard for this type of testing. This includes full instructions, the test components and a reply paid envelope to our laboratory. It is double wrapped in case the package is damaged in transit and a security seal must be broken to use the test. The package itself is completely discreet with no external marking of Veolabs.
How does the test work?
Your test is based upon a blood sample which you provide for us at one of our private doctor or hospitals. The cost of this services is paid for when you place your order with Veolabs.The sample is then sent back to our laboratory using the reply paid envelope included. There is no more to pay as the test is completely self contained.
How do I receive my results?
Your results will be available for you 5 days after your test is received at our laboratory. Your results will be available to view on our secure server 24 hours a day by entering the results page on our website.
You will need to enter your unique customer ID and code which you will receive with your test to retrieve your results. These will be displayed on the screen along with information pertinant to the test results. Your name and address will be withheld from the report to allow your complete anonimity.
